An historical foundation. The latest modular technology.

“I am curious to see the mobile operating theatres.”

Sometimes we need short-term solutions to plan for the long haul – for example, to renovate operating theatres in existing buildings – while maintaining ongoing hospital operations. The perfect solution: innovative modules from Cadolto. To win over Alexianer St. Hedwig Kliniken Berlin, we relied not only on cutting-edge technology but also on our best advisory expertise and on cost-conscious, forward-looking solutions. One particularly important aspect in this project was a plan for the operating theatres to be converted later for diagnostic use.

In order to start the renovation of what in 2017 would become the former operating theatres in the existing building, the backup building would have to be built first. An operating theatre was therefore built with 13 modules and a gross floor space of 509 m² in the historic interior courtyard. Enough room for the clinic to run smoothly – and switch over “on the fly”.

And we do mean that literally. Local circumstances made it necessary for our modules to float to the operating site. It’s an amazing sight to see: two heavy-duty cranes carrying 38 tons of modules over the roofs of houses into the historic inner courtyard of the hospital.

After this auspicious beginning, it only took a few weeks for the high-tech modules to be “installed” and equipped with the remaining medical equipment. The modules were handed over as early as September 2016 – and they go live in January 2017.
