Cadolto was awarded the contract for the fabrication and erection of a 3-storey ward building with 99 beds in the second half of November 2016. The scope of work also included excavating and laying the foundations and connection of the modular building to the existing building on the same levels. Cadolto’s bid won the contract against four competitors.

Flexible financing options

A specific feature of this bid: the rental period is 20 months, after which the client has the option to extend for a further 6 months or to purchase the building. The hospital is thus prepared for all eventualities and can react accordingly if the refurbishment or upgrading of the existing building overrun; or if the building is to be used permanently.

Rapid installation, short construction phase

Excavation work started in mid-April 2017 and the foundations were completed by 19 May. A total of 30 modules were delivered ten days later and installed within three days. The building on Zepplinstrasse came into service on 21 July and the construction site could be cleared just seven months from the award of the contract.  The short construction phase meant that emissions from the site were reduced to a minimum.

Well-designed layout

The three-storey building has a gross floor area of 2,045 m². Each floor of the modular building has patient wards (2 and 3-bed rooms), toilets and bathrooms, a nurses’ station, a staffroom, a kitchenette, a storeroom, a consulting and examination room and a waiting area. The stairwell has two hospital bed lifts.
